WESLACO - Elvira Montalvo died peacefully surrounded by family on December 5, 2014 in McAllen, Texas. She was born in Mercedes, Texas on December 15, 1924, to Jose and San Juanita Martinez. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ramon “Chito” Montalvo, Jr., her son Dr. Daniel O. Montalvo, her parents, Jose and San Juanita Montalvo, her brothers, Gilbert Martinez, Jose Martinez, Jr., Rudy Martinez, her sisters, Mary Souder, Sofia Villarreal, Juanita Gonzalez, and Eva Hinojosa, and her grandson, Omar D. Montalvo. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Hector (Melissa) Montalvo, Gregory Montalvo, Ramon “Monse” (Norma Iliana) Montalvo, Norma (Tom) Petrosewicz, daughter-in-law Laura J. Manning, and brother A.L. “Sonny” Martinez. She was affectionately known as “Momo” and is also survived by her grandchildren, Anthony Joseph “A.J.” Montalvo, Andrew Vincent Montalvo, Alexa Marie Montalvo, Angela Michelle Montalvo, Danielle Nicole Petrosewicz, Thomas “T.J.” Petrosewicz, Ramon Montalvo, IV, Ariana Karen Montalvo, and great grandson, Adrian Montalvo.
She graduated from Mercedes High School and attended Durham Business School. She was instrumental in helping her husband establish the Montalvo Insurance Agency some 60 years ago diligently working as the bookkeeper for over 45 years. Before that she worked as an executive secretary at Rio Farms where she met her husband, Chito. She was a devout Catholic having been an active member at both St. Joan of Arc and San Martin de Porres. During retirement, she enjoyed her daily walks, working the newspaper puzzles and baking her famous apple and pecan pies. She was also involved in volunteer activities including the Weslaco Museum and Friends of the Library. Elvira was a very special wife, mother, and grandmother who was always full of life and love. She laughed often and lit up the lives of those she met. We will miss her deeply, but her legacy will live on in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 3pm-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be on Monday, December 8, 2014, 10:00am at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco, with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
