Weslaco- Emilio Rene Hinojosa Sr., 70, passed away on February 22, 2014 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 23, 1943 to Nicanor and Ernestina Solis Hinojosa. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church of Weslaco. Emilio loved spending time with his family at get togethers and barbeques. He loved fishing, hunting, football, baseball and NASCAR. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys and he enjoyed going to see his grandchildren play their season sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Eleazar Hinojosa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elvira de la Fuente de Hinojosa; his children, Gloria Gonzalez, Emilio Rene (Angelica) Hinojosa, Jr., Francisco Javier (Diana) Hinojosa and Nicanor (Selma) Hinojosa; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Erasmo Hinojosa, Ernesto Hinojosa, Elva De La Fuente, Elma Cavazos, Elsie Cantu and Elvira Hinojosa.
Viewing will be held today, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nicanor Hinojosa, Nicanor Hinojosa Jr., Emilio Rene Hinojosa III, Armando Javier Hinojosa, Desiree Dallas Hinojosa, Alejandro Rivera, C.J. Mayes and Francisco De La Fuente. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Gonzalez Jr., Jacob Javier Hinojosa, Diego Baldemar Hinojosa and Julian Jesus Gonzalez.
