Weslaco- Ernest M. Frerking, 100, passed away February 18, 2014 in Weslaco, TX. He was born on September 3, 1913 in La Harpe, Kansas. He and his family moved to Quinton, Oklahoma where he lived until moving to the Valley in 1931. Ernest was a member of the First Methodist Church of Weslaco since the early 1930’s. He was also known for growing cotton, fruit and vegetables. He and Jessie Ida Torrence (Frerking) were married in 1947 and were both active members of First Methodist Church for the next 49 years until her passing in 1996.
Ernest traveled extensively throughout the 50 states and more than 30 countries, including a visit to Machu Picchu while in his mid-80’s. The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Caring Senior Service and to IPH Hospice for their countless kindnesses.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Henry and Ida Pearl Marsh Frerking; one brother, Lawrence Frerking; and one sister, Hazel Frerking. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Ruth Anderson and husband, Bill of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest Grey Frerking and wife, Sharon of Austin; granddaughter, Juliet Rose Frerking of New York City; and a brother, Harlan William Frerking Sr. of La Cañada Flintridge, California.
Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 W. 4th St. in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Anderson, Don Anderson, Jr., Barry Dickerson, Michael England, Lynn Neumann and Steve Wilson.
