Weslaco- Ernesto G. Martinez, Jr., 75, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2016, in Weslaco, TX. He was born on March 24th, 1941, in Weslaco to Ernesto and Felicitas (Azoca) Martinez. He is survived by two sisters, Edelmira (Jose) Espinoza of Mission, Texas and Carmen (Baldomero) Chapa of Weslaco. Ernesto will be remembered as a man with a great work ethic. He served his country in the Vietnam War where he was a "machine gunner". After serving his country, he joined the National Guard. He attended Pan American, where he earned his Masters Degree and also was active in the ROTC. Ernesto worked for Donna ISD in the migrant department. He made is move to Weslaco, where he would work for the Weslaco School District for 35 years and a curriculum supervisor. After retirement, he worked for Wal-Mart in the electronics department, where he would make many friends. Ernesto loved antique cars. He owned a 57 Chevy and would spend a lot of time working on it. He also enjoyed going to car shows. Ernesto was a big football fan also. He loved to watch his hometown team, the Weslaco Panthers and of course, his favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, Ernesto was a very religious man. He was very active at St. Joan of Arc in Weslaco, where he served as the choir coordinator. Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Emma (Rodolfo) Guerra of Alice, Texas and Josefina (Alberto Sr.) of Donna, Texas. Remember, Lord, those who have died and gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially those for whom we now pray. May they find peace in Your presence light, happiness and peace. He is survived by two sisters, Edelmira (Jose) Espinoza of Mission, Texas and Carmen (Baldomero) Chapa of Weslaco. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 from 10am-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
