Weslaco-Esperanza Gonzalez, 95, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, in her son’s home surrounded by family. Fondly named “Perita” by her late husband, she was the matriarch of the family and leaves a legacy of nine children, twenty-four grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Esperanza was born February 14, 1926 in Acambaro, Guanajuato Mexico to Priciliano and Brijida Jasso. She and her husband Luis M. Gonzalez made their home in Weslaco, Texas, and raised their children with good old fashion values of faith, family, and a hard work ethic. Esperanza was a loyal and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. A woman ahead of her time, Doña Esperanza was well respected by community members as a businesswoman who believed a strong hand-shake was true to your word.
Our mother spread her love through her helping hand and home-cooked meals; we especially enjoyed her tamales and asado de puerco. She loved birds and chihuahuas. Our fondest memories include our Mother and Father dancing in our home to the music of Los Panchos and Agustin Lara.
Esperanza is preceded in death by her parents, Priciliano and Brijida Jasso, her husband, Luis Maldanado Gonzalez, daughter Estella Argueta, great-grandchildren John Paul Gonzalez Jr., Sutton Catalina Butler.
She is survived by her children, Edward Argueta (wife Janie), Juan Gonzalez (wife Hilda), Hope Duran (husband Ezequiel), Jose Luis Gonzalez (wife Sara), Rose Gomez (husband Roman), Enrique Gonzalez (wife Anna), Kristina Garza (husband Abel), and Elizabette Gonzalez, twenty-four grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 10 am – 9 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas, with Rosary at 6 pm. The funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, July 23, 2021, at 10:30 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Weslaco, Texas.
