Estela M Hernandez

Weslaco- Estela M. Hernandez, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 24th, 2017. She was born on April 18th, 1927 in Victoria, Texas to Aquilino and Teodora Martinez. She married her childhood neighbor, Nieves, in 1942 and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage, until his untimely death in 1985. They had seventeen children and they raised their family in Weslaco, where she spent the rest of her life, remaining devoted to her late husband. Estela was a devoted mother and spent most of her waking hours caring for her children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to music, singing, sewing, and cooking for her family. Estela will always be remembered for her strength and impeccable moral character. She was a devout Catholic and she exemplified this to her children and grandchildren. Estela is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Nieves, and her sons, Javier D. and Rodrigo N. Hernandez. She is survived by her children, Maria Guadalupe H. Portillo (Manuel Portillo), Olivia H. Segovia, Juana H. Portillo, Serapio Hernandez (Paula Hernandez), Paula H. Rodriguez (Jose Rodriguez), Maria Teodora Gonzalez (Guadalupe Gonzalez), Nieves I. Hernandez, Juan C. Hernandez (Teresa Hernandez), Marcos Hernandez (Stephanie Hernandez), Domingo Hernandez, Estella Ortega (James Ortega), Don H. Hernandez (Margarita Hernandez), Hipolito Hernandez , Apolonio E. Hernandez, Petra Rodriguez (Noe Rodriguez), brothers, Cleofas Martinez (Maria), Jose Martinez, Alfredo Martinez, 53 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27th, from 10-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home chapel. A mass will be held on Thursday, December 28th, at 10 am, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
