Weslaco- Eugenio “Gene” Leal Jr passed away on August 16, 2024, at his sister's home in Weslaco. He was 63 years old. Gene was born on June 6, 1961, to Eugenio G. and Olivia L. Leal. 

Gene dedicated over 25 years to the construction and glass trades, making significant contributions as a professional glass installer in Austin. His unwavering dedication and expertise in his craft earned him the respect and admiration of clients and colleagues alike, inspiring many. Throughout Gene’s career, he looked after the lower-level tradesmen, many of whom were undocumented. Gene took them under his wing to make sure they were treated fairly. 

A proud graduate of Weslaco High School, Class of 1980, Eugenio carried the values instilled in him throughout his schooling. He was a devout Catholic whose faith was central to his existence. His love for Jesus inspired his personal life and how he interacted with others, continuously embodying acceptance and warmth.

Gene's love for his family was a defining aspect of his character. He cherished every moment spent with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, fostering bonds deeply rooted in genuine love and support. His caring nature was most evident in these close relationships, and his presence brought joy and comfort to those around him. His love for his family was profound and unwavering, a testament to the kind of person he was.

An enthusiastic UT Longhorn fan, Gene enjoyed cheering for his team, engaging in spirited discussions, and sharing memorable moments with fellow fans.

Gene's legacy will live on through the memories shared by his family and friends, who will remember him fondly for his unwavering spirit and generous heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Eugenio “Gene” is preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio G. and Olivia L. Leal, his brother, Robert Leal (who passed away as a baby), and his brothers-in-law, William Ehrle Jr. and Luis De la Rosa Jr., and nephew, Jose Gabriel Zuniga. 

He is survived by his siblings, Paul Leal ( Nelda), Gloria Ehrle, Daniel Leal, Sandra Leal (Luis+), Mary Alice Aguirre ( Lupe), Sylvia Dickins (Dan), and David Leal, and numerous nieces and nephews.
