Our beloved mother and grandmother, Evangelina Cavazos, went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2017 at the age of 77. Evangelina was one of six children born to Eusebio and Amelia Guerra on May 17, 1940 in Donna, TX. Together with the love of her life, Miguel "Mike" Cavazos whom she met at a New Year's Eve dance in Brownsville and shortly married in 1961, raised three children. Mike was a well-known businessman in Weslaco, having owned and operated Mike's Bakery for over 26 years. Evangelina helped run the bakery taking care of the clientele while Mike baked the pan de dulce. She taught her children strong work ethics. When Mike passed in 1993, Evangelina kept the family business going until the family decided to sell in 1999. By then the bakery had been running for 32 years. Evangelina was a faithful Catholic, attending weekly Mass even as she began to fall ill. She would pray the Rosary every chance she had. Evangleina was a loving grandmother helping raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed dropping them off and picking them up up from school whenever she could. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and brother, Oscar Guerra.
