Weslaco: Felipa B. Ramos, 89, passed away at her home in Weslaco on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023. Felipa was born on February 5th, 1934 to Natalio and Angela (Sandoval) Barcenas in Tampico Alto Veracruz.
Felipa grew up in Tampico and traveled to the United States to work most of her life.
In 1953, while Felipa was waiting for her bus to arrive in Reynosa, she met her soulmate, Noe Ramos. To say that it was love at first sight, is an understatement. Felipa and Noe spent the rest of their lives together.
Felipa and Noe were a great team. They raised ten children together and spent nine months a year as migrant workers. The Ramos family traveled throughout the United States, working in California, Washington, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, and Minnesota. They taught their children life lessons and work ethics.
When Felipa and Noe retired as migrant workers, they spent the rest of their lives in Weslaco. Noe worked as a contractor for numerous farmers, and Felipa was a homemaker.
Felipa loved to go shopping and couldn’t get enough “bling.” She also loved relaxing at the ocean and dancing the night away. However, Felipa was most passionate about animals. The Ramos family included chickens, dogs, and cats. Felipa would also feed any stray animal that crossed her path.
Felipa is preceded in death by her parents, Natalio and Angela (Sandoval) Barcenas, her son (who died at birth), Noe Ramos Jr., sisters Sara Barrera and Hilda Barcenas Salazar, and brother Antonio Silva.
She is survived by her loving husband of over seventy years, Noe Ramos Sr., children, Guadalupe Pruneda (Severo Valdez), Noe Ramos Jr. (Camelia), Ludvina Briseño (Roberto+), Sara Ramos, Elvia Ramos (Sam Escamilla), Elsa Muñoz, Jorge Ramos (Connie Martinez), Gloria Vander Laan (William “Bill” IV), and Laura Martinez, one brother, Ignacio Barcenas.
Visitation will be Monday, August 21st, 2023 1-9 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 22nd, at 10 am at McCaleb Funeral Home, followed by burial at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
