Felipe Peña

Weslaco-Felipe Peña, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 at Solara Hospital in McAllen. Felipe was born on January 26, 1943, in Weslaco, Texas to Porfirio Peña Sr. and Elvira Saenz Peña. After graduating from Weslaco High School, Felipe attended the police academy and served as a police officer for most of his career. Felipe started in Harlingen, moved to Mercedes, but spent most of those years working for Weslaco Police Department. After retiring from Weslaco PD in 1995, Felipe married Frances Rivera.

Felipe went to work for the Donna Independent School District as a paraprofessional for another twelve years, retiring for good at the age of sixty-five.

Felipe was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. He loved the beach and going fishing. Felipe was a master of the barbecue grill and never missed a Dallas Cowboys game.

Felipe was also a gambler and enjoyed visiting Las Vegas to try his luck. He enjoyed watching old westerns and sci-fi movies and relaxing in his recliner.

Most important to Felipe was his Catholic faith. He was devoted to God and his family.

Felipe is preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio Sr. and Elvira Peña, brother, Gilbert Peña and sister, Rosie Marquez, and great grandson, Jacob Elia Gray.

Surviving Felipe are his wife, Frances Peña, children, Roseanne Peña (Sixto Cano Jr.) of Weslaco, Felipe Peña Jr. (Marlene) of Weslaco, Lisa Ann Gutierrez (Eddie) of Balch Springs, Texas, and Pablo Felipe Peña (Ellie) of Weslaco, step-daughter, Monica Garza (Rene), grandchildren, Justin Maganas, Chelsea A. Peña Cano, Sabrina A. Cano, Alessandra A. Cano, Anthony J. Peña, Abigail R. Peña, Elizabeth A. Peña, Edgardo Ivan Gutierrez, Fabian A. Gutierrez, Step Grandchildren Brittany J. Acosta, Nathan J. Acosta, Matthew I. Acosta, Jonathan Sandoval, and Miranda Sandoval. Great Grandchildren Cash M. Maganas, Gracie A. Mendoza, Gustavo Mendoza III, Jacob Ryan Cano, Kaylanni A. Free, Nathan Ezra Gutierrez, Navaeh Ann Gray, Sara J. Gray, Jeremiah J. Gray Jr., Deron R. Brown, Juelz D. Brown, and Bryson C. Brown. Brother/Sisters, Rolando Peña (Mary) of Edinburg, Carlos Peña (Molly) of Weslaco, Jaime Peña (Gloria) of Edinburg, Porfirio Peña Jr. (Sara), of Rapid City, SD, Robert Peña (Elva) of Weslaco, George Peña (Mari) of San Juan.
Sisters Dora Cavazos (Jesse) from California and Estella Peña of Weslaco, numerous nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, 1-9 pm, with a rosary at 6 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, December 21st, 2020, at 10 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.
