She is preceded in death by her son Rogelio Perez, father Daniel Perez, mother Tenora Perez, her
brother Raul Perez and her grandson Erick J. Caballero.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Dora A. Rios, Arcely Cantu (Arturo Jr.), 3 grandchildren, Roxanna M
Salazar, Arturo Daniel Cantu, Aaron Alejandro Cantu, 3 great grandchildren, Xavier Watson, Essac
Salazar, Michael Buitron.
Flora grew up in Weslaco, Texas and loved being with family and friends. She loved to have great
conversations and adored to cook. She loved to sit outside her home and water her beautiful plants.
She fulfilled the role of both mother and father for her two daughters and it was a common practice
to celebrate both Father and Mother’s Day. She attended night school as a young mom to learn how
to read and write English to further educate herself in order to provide for her daughters, as she
only had a 3rd grade education.
Flora absolutely loved music. She would dance and play the radio as loud as she could, all while
shouting a joyous “Ahuahh!!!” throughout the corners of her home. She expressed so much joy and
happiness that it was rare to see smile fade, and she would dance and recite the words to Tejano and Cumbia music. Every year, she would look forward to Mother’s Day, as her son in law Arturo Jr.
would play Las Mananitas on the trumpet for her. It made her so happy that she could not wipe the
smile off her face. Most importantly, Flora had an incredibly strong sense of faith, as she is cancer
survivor of 25 years and never expressed a doubt to God.
The family would like to offer a sincere and upmost thank you to all who were a part of Flora’s
incredible life. They would like to especially thank all the staff at Village Rehabilitation in McAllen
and the Doctor’s and Nurses of DHR hospital in McAllen. A special thank you to her dear life long friend Lois Thurmond of Kerrville, Texas.
