Frances met Raul Sosa at a dance when she was a teenager. They were married on July 2, 1967. Raul worked hard to provide for the family, making Frances a full-time homemaker. Frances and Raul lived in Harlingen, then San Antonio, but eventually moved to Edinburg, where they have lived for over thirty years.
Frances was the perfect homemaker. The Sosa home was a testament to her love and care, where cherished gatherings and celebrations occurred. Her dedication to decorating and preparing delicious meals elevated every holiday, birthday, or family barbecue into a truly special occasion. Whether it was her renowned cottage cheese enchiladas or comforting menudo, Frances's culinary creations were not just meals but expressions of her love and devotion. She would also make the best buñuelos and always had a nice fresh cup of coffee to go alongside. Frances loved having her family together, and her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends all cherished the time spent together and the priceless memories that Frances made possible. Frances also remained close to her siblings for life. She and her sisters were the best of friends.
Frances went "all-out" for every occasion, but Halloween, Christmas, and Easter were some of her favorites. Not to mention, she cooked the entire meal at Thanksgiving.
Beyond her skills in the kitchen, Frances was hailed as the "best mom ever" by her surviving family. She exuded beauty with her impeccable appearance and "heart of gold" that welcomed all who crossed her path. A true peacemaker and compassionate soul, Frances had an innate ability to forge lasting friendships, creating a sense of community even with strangers at yard sales or events. She was a great listener and non-judgmental; once Frances was a friend, she would be your defender for life.
In addition to her roles as a homemaker and mother, Frances found joy in collecting antiques and hunting for treasures at bargain prices. Her passion for old music was evident through her extensive vinyl records collection. At the same time, her fondness for classic movies like "Trip to Bountiful" and "Coal Miner's Daughter" added depth to her diverse interests. Shopping channels HSN and QVC were also favorite shows, where Frances found bargains.
Frances loved to find bargains because she was a generous giver. She often bought toys and gifts for the grandchildren. When Frances bought a gift for one, she bought something for all of them.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Viola Cortez; her siblings, Rafaela Guajardo, Maria Luisa Rodriguez, and Oscar Cortez; and her nieces, Liza Tobias and Viviana Hernandez.
