Weslaco-Francisca G Reyes, "Panchita" passed away on Thursday, May 18th at her residence in Harlingen. She was born on January 29, 1924 in Donna, Texas to Juan R Garcia and Maria Rodriguez Garcia. Panchita went to Catholic school at St. Joan of Arc in Weslaco. She would meet her future husband, Trinidad, at a very young age, as he lived only a block and a half away. They enjoyed forty years of marriage and had eight children together, until his untimely death in 1981. Panchita was not a typical homemaker as most women were, especially those with eight children. Instead, she worked her whole life helping her husband Trinidad to raise the family. Her children fondly remember her strong work ethic, which she exemplified daily. Many will remember Francisca from her many years at Dickies in Weslaco, however, she had several other jobs throughout her life. When she was young, she worked in the fields. She spent many years at McManus Produce, she spent many years as a nurses assistant for Dr. Ellis. She also earned extra money as a seamstress and she was very well know for her quality work. Panchita was also quite a salesperson, she sold Avon and Stanley. Francisca could really perform well at just about any task. Her husband, Trinidad, was a mechanic, and mom would slide right under the cars and trucks and get to work on repairs. Even though she raised eight children, enjoyed a beautiful marriage, and worked, she always took time to roll her hair and finish her makeup. She took pride in her looks and it was obvious. She also took time for God and church and raised her children to be faithful servants of God. Frances had a special prayer for each one of her children and once she started having grandchildren, she had a special prayer for each one of them too. She would pray with them every time they would visit and make sure they all knew how much God loved them. She loved to pray the rosary. She was a very spiritual woman and would bless many people as she was so close to Christ. Many of her children, grandchildren, and daughters and sons in law still feel her blessings and will continue to for many years. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Trinidad her brother, Antonio Garcia, AKA, "Tony the Tiger", her sisters, Ignacia Cano and Maria Gonzalez. She is survived by her children, Juan Reyes (Angie) of Weslaco, Jaime Reyes (Frieda) of Weslaco, Mary Ann Canales (Luis) of Harlingen, Ramiro Reyes (Oralia) of Weslaco, Dolores Ramiro Reyes (Beatriz) of Weslaco, Rita Sanchez (Jesus) of Weslaco, Maria Magdeline Montalvo (Hilario) of Cibilo, and Francisa Dorado of San Antonio, brother Juan Garcia (Maria) and sisters Pauline Cisneros, Constancia Oliva, Antonia Mata, and Guadalupe Perez (Roberto), 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-9pm and Sunday from 1-9pm, with a rosary at 7pm on Sunday at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be held on Monday at 10am, at St Joan of Arc in Weslaco, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial.
