Francisco "Pancho" Alvarez Sr.

WESLACO - Francisco "Pancho" Alvarez Sr., 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 26th at his residence in Weslaco. He was born on April 7, 1926 to Alejos & Virginia Alvarez in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He was known to everyone as "Pancho" and by "Popeye" by Valley Mart customers where he worked at as a Produce Manager for over 40 years. He was happiest working outside with his hands, listening to his radio and spending time with his wife. He is preceded in death by his wife, Antonia C. Alvarez, two sons, Francisco Alvarez, Jr. and Ricardo Alvarez, and his parents Alejos Alvarez and Virginia Lopez. Pancho is survived by his daughters, Francisca Silva (Esteban), Leticia Bailey (Randy), his son Alberto Alvarez (Linda) and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also, his brothers Jacinto, Espirion & Eleodoro Alvarez and his sister Felipa Escobedo. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 3pm - 9pm with a 7pm Rosary at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10am on Thursday, July 28th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home.
