WESLACO -Frank "Pancho" Lewis Jr., 70, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 17th, 2017. He was born on September 18th, 1947 in Pensacola, Florida to Francis Sr. and Georgia Mae Lewis. He and his brother grew up in Florida, but relocated to Weslaco as teenagers where Frank graduated high school. Shortly after graduating, Frank joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving his time, he returned to Weslaco and became a volunteer fire fighter. He was dedicated to fire fighting and decided to make a career out of it by becoming a professional fire fighter. He served the community for over twenty five years with the Weslaco Fire Department. He married Joyce Burke in 1976 and together they raised her son, Robert. Frank loved anything to do with the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish on the coast. His favorite past time was spending time at the ranch. He dedicated 19 years as a ranch foreman for El Puerto Ranch in Hebbronville. Frank also worked part-time as a communications officer for the Texas DPS. Frank is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce, his sons, James Lewis of Harlingen, TX, Robert Mumford II (Samantha) of Bryan, TX , brother Robert Lewis (Jeanine) of Hendersonville, TN., and loving grandson Burke Mumford. Frank will always be remembered as a dedicated fire fighter, who loved nature, his community and spending time with his good friends, family and grandson at El Puerto Ranch.
