Weslaco

Weslaco: Paul Franklin Johnson, 88, passed away at his home on Friday, September 1st, 2023. Paul was born on January 5th, 1935, to Cecil and Virginia (Blalock) Johnson in Granite City, Illinois. Paul grew up in Granite City with seven siblings. After graduating high school, he joined the US Air Force in 1956 in Vietnam. In 1958, while stationed in England, he met his soulmate, Rosemarie Shepherd.

Paul and Rosemarie were married in 1961 and spent the rest of their lives together. Paul's career in the US Air Force demanded lots of travel. The Johnson family relocated almost every year during his twenty-year tenure. As a result, they were able to travel most of the world.

After Paul retired, he and Rosemarie continued to travel leisurely. Eventually, they found their way to the Rio Grande Valley, where they had spent the last thirty-three years.

Paul and Rosemarie had great rhythm, and one of their favorite pastimes was dancing together. Paul was active his entire life, never wasting a drop of daylight. He had many hobbies, including billiards, bowling, and spending time with friends and family.

Paul was most passionate about working in his shop. He was a jack of all trades and constantly kept busy with projects and honeydews.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Virginia Johnson, and siblings Norma Piburne, Ruth Oberkfell, and Floyd Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Rosemarie; his children, Richard Johnson, Judy Carver (Frank), Wendie Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; siblings, Pat Reed (Dwayne), Jerry Johnson (Mickey), Cleta Dean (Billy+), Wayne Johnson, grandchildren, Jennifer Hyde (Sam), Lisa Lew (Derrek), Ashley Hubbard, Eileen Wilson, Willie Wilson, Michael Wilson (Jessica), great-grandchildren, Emerson, Judy, Esme, Petra, Cody, Mason, Virgil, and Jaelyn.

Cremation services will be private.
