Gerald Patrick Pierce, Sr., 78, passed away on May 19th, 2016 at his home in Weslaco. He was born June 24, 1937 in Muskogee, OK to Garland and Eugene Brucker Pierce.
He grew up in Muskogee with his brother and sister.
Gerald wanted to serve our country and this was so important to him that he dropped out of high school to join the army. He would continue his education at a later time.
In between serving our country and school, Gerald married Jo Ann. They would have three children and were married for over 25 years, until her untimely death.
Gerald received his Masters Degree from North Texas State, in Denton, Texas. He served our country for 20 years both, active duty and reserves, where he earned the rank of Major. He served as a Medic in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and various other capacities.
After his service to our country, he was the branch manager for the Social Security Administration offices in Alabama and Oklahoma for many years.
He would then begin working at various school districts as the school librarian. He worked for a year in the Weslaco School District. He later was a school librarian in Fort Worth and finally in La Joya.
After retirement, he married his wife, Nancy, and she was by his side for 19 years until his death.
Gerald had many hobbies. He became a pilot and enjoyed flying for many years. He enjoyed wood working and building model airplanes. He also loved gardening, “secret squirrels”, and reading. Gerald enjoyed traveling and he had a great sense of humor. He loved his dogs and had many throughout his lifetime.
Gerald also loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and he attended church regularly.
Gerald will always be remembered as someone who had a “colorful life”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and Garland and Eugene Pierce, his first wife Jo Ann Pierce, and his beloved dog “Jazz”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Pierce, his brother, John Pierce of Oceanside, CA, his sisters, Dorothy Bachorski of Omaha, NE, Sarah Stokes of NC, two sons, Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Pierce, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO (Susan), Christopher “Kit” Pierce of Denton (Heidi); daughter, Stephanie Harrison of Manitowac, WI (Jimmy); three step-daughters, Debbie Cowan, of Corinth, TX (Doug), Lynne Morton of Zephyr Cove, NV (Doug), Judy McDaniel of Columbus, IN (Tony); step-son, Rick Brebner of Weslaco, twenty grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mercedes Christian Church in Mercedes.
Serving as pall bearers will be, Rick Brebner, “Kit” Pierce, Jerry Pierce, Raul Reyna, Doug Cowan, and Raymond Gonzalez.
