Weslaco—Graciela M. Pedraza, a beloved homemaker and caregiver, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on July 3rd, 2024, in Weslaco. She was born on December 15th, 1933, in La Parra, Texas, where her father worked on the ranch. Grace's nurturing spirit, which she developed from her early years in La Parra, touched the lives of many. She graduated from high school in Corpus Christi and went to trade school to become an X-ray tech.
Grace married Prajedez "Pete" Pedraza Jr. in 1954. . The couple soon relocated to Weslaco, where Grace became affectionately known as "Mimo." She chose to dedicate her career to being a devoted homemaker. When the kids were older, Mimo ran a daycare from her home for several years, demonstrating her passion for caring for others. However, her true calling came when she became a full-time caregiver for her grandchildren, filling their lives with love and joy.
Grace was a take-charge individual, ensuring that things ran smoothly and efficiently. Her knack for organization and timeliness was admired by all who knew her. But it was her culinary skills that truly set her apart. Her 'soupy' beans, a favorite among many, and her mouthwatering meals brought people together around the table, creating cherished memories.
In addition to her caregiving talents, Grace had a green thumb and enjoyed sewing. She took great pride in maintaining a beautiful home both inside and out. She spent over thirty summers with her husband, Pete, at Isla Blanca Park in South Padre, where they forged lasting friendships and created priceless memories.
One of Grace's proudest accomplishments was her family.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Carlos Sr. and Concepcion Cavazos, her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Prajedez "Pete" Pedraza Jr., her sister, Inocencia Parra, and brother, Carlos Cavazos Jr.
She is survived by her sons Orlando "Mickey" Pedraza and Rolando Pedraza (Nora); granddaughters Heather Pedraza, Briana Pedraza, and Sarah Durham (Blaise); sisters Carmen Elliott, Nidia Trevino, and Irma Ochoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace Pedraza will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones. May she rest in peace knowing that she touched the hearts of many throughout her remarkable life.
