Gregorio Piña

Weslaco- Gregorio H. Piña, Sr., 91, passed away on Monday, June 19th, 2017. He was born on May 9th, 1926, to Manuel and Juanita Piña in Mercedes. TX. He grew up in Weslaco with seven siblings. Sixty two years ago, he met his soulmate, Juanita Villa, at a dance in Mercedes. They fell in love and would enjoy sixty one years of marriage. They had four children Juanita, Gregorio Jr., Genaro and George. Gregorio supported his family through a lot of hard work and dedication. He worked for Weslaco Motors for many years, but he mainly ran a lawn mower repair shop out of his home for over thirty years. He would work long hours to make sure his family was well taken care of. When Gregorio wasn't working, he did love to dance with his wife. He also loved to watch boxing, baseball and football, he loved the Yankees, but especially the Cowboys. He also loved a good barbecue. Gregorio also made time for church and raised his children to do the same. Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Juanita Piña and his brothers, Geronimo, Claudio, Liborio, and Manuel Piña and his sisters, Dominga Garza, Ciria Tijerina, and Margarita Barron. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty one years, Juanita, his daughter, Juanita Garcia of Weslaco, his sons, Gregorio Piña, Jr. (Sylvia), of Mercedes, Genaro Piña (Rosalinda) of Weslaco, and George Piña (Mary), of Weslaco, his brother, Liborio Piña (Francisca) of Weslaco, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
