Weslaco- Guadalupe Aguirre Cervantes, 100, passed away after an accident early Tuesday morning, January 10th. Guadalupe was born on April 13th, 1916 to Bernardo and Juanita Aguirre in Linares, Nuevo León. Her mom died when she was two years old and she and her sister were raised by her aunt, Mariana Aguirre and her dad would work on the railroad in Louisiana to send them money. Guadalupe was a wonderful example to her children. She and her husband, Jose Cervantes, taught the kids how to be responsible and work hard and they were great examples of this. Guadalupe was a hard worker and when the family migrated to South Dakota, Guadalupe always made sure they had a hot meal. They also learned the importance of honesty, and a good hand shake. Guadalupe was a very strong person, who had a strong belief in her God, and was also full of love. She raised the children to also be loving and caring, because when Guadalupe lost her son, Pablo Cervantes, she went thru a period of depression. Her children were fortunate enough to be able to return the love that mom and instilled in them and comfort her in her time of grief and sorrow. When Guadalupe would iron her children's clothes, she would pray the entire time. She wanted the children to be covered in God's armor and they even felt as though they were protected thru her prayers. When her youngest daughter, Rita, was sick from cancer, Guadalupe would hold her hand and comfort her. Guadalupe was a beautiful lady, inside and out. She always had her hair up and fixed nicely and always dressed just perfect. She instilled this in her children and grandchildren. When she was not caring for her children, cooking, or praying, her favorite past time was gardening. Guadalupe loved her garden and spent countless hours working on her flowers and enjoying nature. Guadalupe is preceded in death by her parents, Bernardo and Juanita Aguirre, her aunt, Mariana Aguirre, her husband, Jose Cervantes, her son, Pablo Cervantes, her daughter in law, Marta Cervantes, and her brother Alejandro Aguirre. She is survived by her son, Jose Luis Cervantes (Hilda), of Weslaco, her daughters, Florestela Galindo (Casimiro ) of Weslaco, and Rita Tovar (Efrain), also of Weslaco, her grandchildren, Irma Castillo, Richard Cervantes, Robert Cervantes, Gilberto Cervantes, George Cervantes, Roy Cervantes, Guadalupe Cervantes, Cindi Cervantes, Albert Avila, Raul R Galindo, Janie Alanis, Juan P Galindo, Flor Galindo-Isaguirre and Guadalupe Tovar, 33 great grandchildren, he sister, Estefana De Leon, and numerous nephews and nieces. Guadalupe will always be remembered as a strong, caring, hard-working, God-fearing, beautiful women, full of love, hope and truth. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 3-9 pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Mass will be celebrated at San Martin de Porres on Friday, January 13th, at 10am, with interment to follow at Weslaco City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Juan Galindo, Albert Avila, Efrain Tovar, Undre Galindo, Robert Cervantes, and Javier Alanis.
