WESLACO - Guillermina Villarreal, 98, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 7th, 2018. She was born on February11th, 1920 to Julio and Victoria Gonzalez in Ciudad Camargo, Mexico. She was raised with her five siblings in Mexico. She met her future husband, Jose Maria Villarreal in Comales, Tamps when she was a teenager and they were married in 1940. They raised their children in San Miguel where Jose Maria worked as a farmer and Guillermina took care of the home and children. In 1972, Jose and Guillermina came to the United States with their youngest children, Graciela and Santos seeking opportunity for a better future. He passed away soon after in 1988. Her three children were already settled in Weslaco and worked together to make sure Guillermina was cared for the rest of her life. Guillermina loved to work in her garden and cared for all of her plants. She loved to knit and sew and made clothes for all of her children. She loved to pray and was a faithful Catholic who attended mass regularly. Guillermina was very caring and compassionate. She visited Colorado, Houston, Monterrey, Mexico City and Mazaltan. She was able to spend many holidays with her children and grandchildren in San Antonio.
