Harold Simpson

Weslaco: Harold Simpson, 89, passed away Thursday morning, December 21st, 2023, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Harold was born on February 7th, 1934, to Claude and Ima (Guffy) Simpson in Union Mills, North Carolina. While living in Washington, DC, he met his soulmate, Betty Willard. Harold and Betty moved back to Union Mills to raise their three children. Harold worked in management for Broyhill Furniture while Betty became a full-time homemaker. 

When Harold retired, he and Betty enjoyed traveling in their RV. They discovered South Padre Island and fell in love with the area. Harold and Betty wintered at South Padre for nearly twenty years and ultimately moved to Weslaco, Texas as full-time residents. 

Harold is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years (who passed away four and a half years ago) and his parents, Claude and Ima Simpson. 

He is survived by his two daughters of Weslaco, Debbie Kelley and Stephanie Simpson,  his son of Calabash, North Carolina, Steve Simpson (wife Beth), granddaughter Lindsay Mackey (husband, Chad), and great-grandchildren, Baylee, Avery, and Sailor Mackey.

Harold and Betty’s ashes will be scattered at their favorite place, South Padre Island, with a private service held by their three children.
