Pharr, Texas- Hazell Morse (McIntosh), late of Alamo Country Club in Alamo, Tx, passed away peacefully at her home in The Gardens of Brookridge in Pharr, Texas on November 16, 2024 at the age of 96. Hazell is survived by her daughter, Melanie MacDonald (David), son Cameron McIntosh(Shirley) and Grandson, Torey. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert John McIntosh and second husband, Everard Awde Morse.
Born Hazell Ena Newstead in the Village of Blofield, England, Hazell married Bob McIntosh in England in 1947. The couple emigrated to Canada in the early 1950's settling down in Imperial, Saskatchewan where they raised their family, while Bob worked as a welder and later built a business. For many years, Hazell helped Bob establish and run MelCam Industries, a manufacturer of farm equipment.
Hazell first arrived in the Rio Grande Valley when she and Bob purchased a home in Siesta Village in Weslaco in the late 1970's. Several years later, after Bob had passed away, Hazell revisited the Valley and purchased a home in Alamo Country Club, where she was a resident for more than 30 years. During this time, Hazell met and married Everard "Dutch" Morse, and they spent many happy years together, golfing in Alamo Country Club in the winter, and traveling to Canada in their RV and golfing during the summer months.
It was during her first visit to the Rio Grande Valley the Hazell developed what would become a lifelong passion for the game of golf. She was known as fierce competitor, and although she couldn't hit a long ball, her short game was very good. Hazell was typically seen 3 or more times per week on the golf course in Alamo Country Club, and golfed right up to the age of 93. Hazell also loved dancing, and was known at The Gardens at Brookridge as their "Dancing Queen."
Hazell will be cremated in a private ceremony, and her remains will be repatriated to Canada, where she will rest next to her husband Bob McIntosh at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
