Mercedes- Heriberto Noriega Sr. “Tati,” 58, passed away suddenly on July 8, 2020, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Heriberto was born on December 5, 1961, to Saturnino Noriega and Bertha Martinez in Mercedes, Texas.
After graduating from Mercedes High School in 1981, Heriberto attended TSTC and earned his Associates Degree in 1996. He was an HVAC technician for over twenty years, then shared his wealth of knowledge at South Texas Votech. After teaching, Tati went back to work as an AC tech for the rest of his career. His last employment place was Texas A&M labs, where his co-workers and friends loved him.
Tati loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, working on cars, and collecting old things. He was a jack of all trades and loved to fix anything, especially cars. Tati’s children will always remember his green truck and 1980 red corvette. Tati loved watching old westerns, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, Bruce Lee movies, Three Stooges, and Andy Griffith. He loved his flour tortillas, rice, and beans.
Like many Texans, Tati loved the Dallas Cowboys. He and Amy would often go dancing together and Tati was always yelling about the Cowboys during their dance time.
Tati was helpful, funny, and generous. He was easy-going, a great listener. Always a kid at heart, Tati’s favorite days of the year were Christmas and Halloween always getting a kick out of scaring people.
Heriberto “Tati” is preceded in death by his mom, Bertha Noriega. He is survived by his father, Saturnino Noriega, wife, Amy Gonzalez, children, Heriberto “TJ” Noriega Jr. (Nadia) of Mercedes, Raylene Noriega of Houston, Elijah Noriega of Edinburg, Veronica, Isaac Gonzalez, Katalyea Gonzalez of Mercedes, grandchildren, Nevalyn, Adelynn, Shaelyn, and Tatum Noriega, brothers and sisters, Martha E. Noriega (Roy Gil), Sandra G. Noriega, Saturnino Noriega Jr. (Esmer), Debbie A. Noriega, Patricia N. Maldonado (Indy), Yvette Noriega, and Roy Sierra (Janie Chacon).
Visitation will be Friday, July 17, 2020, 9 am-9 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be Friday, July 17th, at 7 pm.
