Hortencia Kautz, formerly known as Hortencia Pena Alanis went to be with our heavenly Father at the age of 84 on April 23, 2015. She was born on April 15, 1931 in Weslaco TX to Juan and Basilisa Pena. Tencha married Ernesto Alanis on September 29, 1951 and they were blessed with five sons and three daughters (they obeyed the Lord in being fruitful and multiplying). The Alanis family resided in Weslaco, TX.
Tencha was a housewife, mother, provider and a hard worker. Come summertime we migrated north yearly, where she then worked hard labor. She would work long hours out in the fields, nonetheless her day was not over. Upon arriving home it was cooking time, plus other household responsibilities for the family. Hortencia was a great example of a virtuous woman, though of a small stature mighty in strength.
At a younger age, she enjoyed sewing for the family. We must add that her favorites hobbies were to raised chickens and rabbits. Her greatest benefits were the joy and accomplishments of being able to relish the fruits of her labor, which were to eat the brown country eggs and the home made fresh caldo de pollo. OH how she enjoyed that pleasure.
Ernesto passed away in December 1983, leaving Tencha a widow for 19 years. Come February 26, 2003 she remarried to Louis Anthony Kautz. They were married twelve years. Mr. and Mrs. Kautz resided in La Feria TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Basilisa Pena, her first husband, Ernesto Alanis, three brothers, Carlos, Ruben, Rolando Pena, and two sisters, Isabel Gonzalez and Rebecca Ginez.
She is survived by her husband Louis Kautz, Children, Jose, Oscar, Ernesto Jr, Carlos and Armando Alanis, Elida Jones, Aracelia Garcia, Irma Martinez, 29 Grand Children, 45 great children and three great-great children and two sisters, Sulema Martinez and Aurora Mata.
Although life brought her many trials, regrets, misunderstanding, the blessings in her life outnumbered all the little things in life. There are countless testimonies of the Goodness of God upon Hortencia Alanis Kautz. Today she is redeemed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And yes she will be greatly missed, but forever remembered for the good influence she had on others’ lives. Always in our minds and forever in our hearts. Forever grateful, Todos sus Hijos.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 26th, from 4-9pm, with a “Celebration of Rememberance” at 7pm. A funeral service will be Monday at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00am, with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
