McAllen- Inge Mathilde Libby, 91, passed away on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, at Barcelona Assisted Living in McAllen. Inge was born on November 3rd, 1931, to Richard and Mathilde (Eisele) Reich in Frankfurt, Germany. After graduating from high school, Inge attended German College for two years. About that time, she met Eldon Libby while he was stationed in her hometown while serving in the US Army, and the rest is history. Inge and Eldon spent the rest of their lives together.
Eldon and Inge moved to Maine, where they would raise their only son, Olney. Eldon worked in heavy construction, which required a lot of traveling, and Inge was able to tag along most of the time. Inge and Eldon developed a love for traveling and adventure. They enjoyed camping and soon purchased an RV to stop wherever they decided to go. Inge and Eldon were members of several camping clubs and could see most of the country. When the grandchildren were old enough, they could take them along. Those road trips and quiet campgrounds created priceless memories and bonding. Somewhere along the way, Inge and Eldon discovered Texas and, eventually, the Rio Grande Valley. They loved the Rio Grande Valley and called it home for almost thirty years.
Inge also enjoyed cross-country skiing. She admired the beauty of nature, flowers, and birds and was a great photographer. Inge was always dressed perfectly for any occasion, but a nice restaurant was a favorite.
Inge and Eldon attended Jehovah’s Witness church, and their religion was essential to their lives.
Inge is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mathilde Reich, and her loving husband, Eldon Libby.
She is survived by her son, Olney Michael Libby, and his wife, Donna; grandchildren, Joshua and wife Joanna Libby, Benjamin Libby, and Matthew Libby, of Maine; and sisters, Else Dunnell and Monica Reich of Vermont.
Burial will be Monday, May 15th, 2023, 10:00 am, at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
