Irene Alaniz

Irene Alaniz, age 83, of Weslaco, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 10, 2024. Born on June 28, 1941, to Virginia and Julio Martinez, Irene was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose spirit touched the lives of many.

Irene began working as a laborer at a young age, where she met her husband, Manuel Alaniz. Together, they built a loving family and created a warm home filled with joy and laughter.

Irene is survived by her four cherished children: Odilia Alaniz, Olivia Rodriguez, Manuel Alaniz Jr., and Rubi Mora. She leaves behind two loving brothers, Faustino and Jose Martinez. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel, and three of her children, Victor Alaniz, Noel Alaniz, and Nora Regalado.

With a radiant smile that could light up any room, Irene was known for her warmth and kindness. She took great joy in sewing, gardening, and dancing, proudly earning the title of our little Dancing Cumbia Queen. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her large family, which includes seven children, sixteen grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

2 Timothy 4:7 says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith... Mom/Grandma, you were strong, resilient, and taught us never to give up. We love you and will miss you greatly. Though you're not with us, your spirit will forever guide us, and your memory will live in our hearts. Rest in peace... until we meet again!

Irene’s legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7:00p.m. Irene's Celebration of Life will continue on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 with a funeral mass at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Irene will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
