WESLACO - Irene Quintanilla, 60, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Doctor's Hospital-Renaissance in Edinburg. She was born on June 23, 1958, to Manuel Zavala JR. and Otila Hernandez in Mercedes, TX. She grew up in Weslaco with her five sisters and two brothers. They were very close. She met her future husband, Bernandino, when they worked together at the Bronco restaurant in Donna. They were married in 1981 and raised five children together. Irene enjoyed knitting, gardening and playing bingo, She was a great cook and when she worked as a young mom, she worked in the restaurant industry. She was strong in her Catholic faith. Irene was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Otila Zavala, her loving husband of 30 years, Bernardino Quintanilla, and her nephew, Jesus David (JD) Santillana. She is survived by her children, Daniel Saenz (Angelica) of Weslaco, Herminia "Minnie" Rodriguez (Gabriel) of Weslaco, Christy Villarreal (Victor) of Missouri, Mario Quintanilla (Rocio) of Donna, and Irene Quintanilla of Mississippi grandchildren, Gabriella, Gabriel Jr., Mia and Sophia Rodriguez, Jesse, Victoria, Veronica, Laura, Christopher, Marcos, Renee, Monique, Victor, and Virginia Villarreal, Mario J and Alyssa Quintanilla, Armando & Nilah Sanchez, Tristan and Edward Moore, sisters, Rita Correa, Elena Saenz (Ernesto) , Rosalinda Guerra, Linda Gutierrez (Rolando), Judy Caballero, Brothers, Manuel Zavala III and Ramiro Zavala, numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16th, from 3-9pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be held our Guadalupe Catholic Church in Weslaco, with burial to follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
