Isabel Silva

June 8, 1932 — July 3, 2017

Weslaco- Isabel Silva passed away on Monday, July 3rd, 2017. She was born on June 8th, 1932 to Ernesto Escobedo and Rosa Mendez in Mexico. She met her future husband, Benjamin Silva Sr., at a very young age and they would move from Mexico to the United Sates and settled in Weslaco, where they would raise their family and enjoy over sixty years of marriage. Isabel and Benjamin had two children, Benjamin Jr. and Sylvia. Benjamin was a hard worker and worked for the Wyatt ranch his entire life, retiring only recently. He worked very hard to allow Isabel to be a housewife and take care of the children. She was a great housewife caring for her son and daughter's every need. Isabel had a special way to make the house very warm and inviting, even as the grandchildren were growing up, her house was the gathering place for the whole family and all of their friends. Isabel was a great cook, her favorite dish was mole, but she was known by many for her famous tamales. Isabel was a very giving person, she would rarely let anyone out the door before making sure they had a full stomach. Anytime there was a need in the neighborhood, she was always willing to help, whether she provided food and money, whatever was needed, Isabel would make sure needs were met. Family was very important to Isabel and she was able to watch all of her grandchildren, who she helped raise, graduate from high school. She was very outgoing and always kept up the communication with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It was a rare occasion when you caught Isabel without the phone on her ear. She loved to visit with family and friends on the phone. Above all, Isabel loved her heavenly Father. She read the Bible front to back and would often use scriptures to get her point across and the grandchildren would realize, she was right and her point was well received. Isabel is preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Benjamin Silva Sr., her children, Benjamin Silva Jr. (Maria) of Houston, Sylvia Carrera (Rigoberto) of Weslaco, her grandchildren, Albert Lee Silva (Melissa) of Houston, Maribel Osorio (Armando) of Houston, Sylvia Vela of Houston, Jaime Vela (Rocio) of Weslaco, and Monica Marie Carrera of Weslaco, her great grandchildren, Armando and Eduardo Silva, Jasmine Vela, Daniel and Ivan Osorio, Jose Valdez, and Nathalia Gonzalez, and numerous nephews and nieces. Isabel will be remembered as a faithful Catholic who loved her family and would give the shirt off of her back. As per her request, there will be no visitation. Mass will be held at St. Pius Catholic church at 2pm on Thursday and burial will follow at Highland.
