Israel Chavez

July 29, 1935 — February 11, 2016

Weslaco- Israel Chavez, 80, passed away on Thursday, January 11th. Arrangements are pending under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
Israel was born on to Pedro and Elvira Chavez on July 29th, 1935 in Harlingen, TX.
His parents taught him a great work ethic and he worked very hard all of his life.
When he was young he worked at Harlingen State Hospital, it is there he met his soulmate, Angelica, in 1961. They were married on August 2nd, 1965 and they were blessed with 50 years of marriage and 50 years, first born, Israel Jr., then Gerardo and Michael.
He is most remembered by his strong work ethic. He worked for Valley Grande Manor for 30 years and was in charge of maintenance.
He also had an entrepreneurial spirit and had a lawn care business. He took care of Fat Daddy’s yard for many years and his hard work earned his son a job as a young teen at Fat Daddy’s as well.
Israel also worked as a gardener for San Martin for many years with his father in law.
His children and wife will mostly remember his hard working, humble and caring spirit.
He left behind his loving wife, Angelica, his children, Israel Chavez Jr. and wife, Marcela, Gerardo Chavez Sr. and wife Liza, and Michael Chavez Sr. and wife Graciela. He had 7 grandchildren, Amanda Michelle Gilberto Lee, Gerardo Jr., Michael Jr., Criselda Marie, Amika Lee Ann, and Jacob Chavez.
He also had 3 sisters, Esther Mercado, Helen Beltran, and Magdalena Garcia, and 1 brother, Jose Beltran and 2 half-brothers and half-sisters, Roberto Chavez and Ramiro Chavez and Elma De la Garza and Rita Garza.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 14th from noon till 9pm, with a rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 15th at 10am at San Martin de Porres in Weslaco with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Serving as pallbearers will be Israel Chavez Jr., Gerardo Chavez Sr., Gerardo Chavez Jr., Joe Beltran, Michael Chavez Sr., Michael Chavez Jr.
