Jack D White

November 20, 1924 — December 26, 2015

WESLACO - Jack Donald White was born on November 20, 1924 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1942, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966. White was the holder of seventeen military campaign decorations, medals and citations for service including five combat operations; his decorations include the Bronze Star with Combat “V” for heroic achievement. He was a member of the CHOSIN FEW — survivors of the Korean War Chosin Reservoir campaign of Nov - Dec 1950. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from George Washington University.

Following his military retirement, White served several years as a member of the University of Delaware business staff, and as the Director of the University’s Computer Center. He subsequently filled a variety of assignments of increasing responsibility in the State Government of Delaware including the Cabinet position of Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Services. Following public service, he served as the President of the United Way of Delaware until he retired in 1985.

White was active in many civic and fraternal organizations including Solomon Lodge #36 AF&AM. of Newark DE and served as Worshipful Master in 1979-1980, McAllen Lodge #1110 of McAllen, TX, DuPont Lodge #78 of Sojourners in DE, and Weslaco Lodge #2057 of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks in Weslaco, TX. He also served as a Board Director for the Salvation Army, The Arthritis Foundation, and Methodist Action Program, Acadia Inc. a brain injury rehabilitation center in Lancaster, PA, the District Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Newark, DE, President of the Alamo Country Club in Alamo, TX and President of the Residents’ Council at John Knox Village in Weslaco, TX.

Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia; by two daughters: Mary Lynne of Pineville, NC and Elizabeth Ann of Port Angeles, WA; by four sons: James (Debbie) of Brea CA, Greg (Sheran) of Colerain NC, Robert (Katherine) of Irvine CA, and William of Toms River NJ; by 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at John Knox Village on January 23rd at 2 pm. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 West 4th Street, Weslaco, TX 78596.
