Mercedes- Jamie Renee Santoyo, 27, passed away on Monday, January 30th, 2023, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born on April 13th, 1995, to David Gomez and Leticia Santoyo.
Jamie grew up in Mercedes with her baby sister, Aurora. She loved music and was active in the orchestra during high school. Jamie was brilliant. After graduating from Mercedes High School, she attended the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Education.
Jamie has been teaching at La Feria High School for the last couple years. Jamie loved her students and her role as a teacher.
Jamie was very artistic. Since she was also good at math, Jamie started selling her arts and crafts projects and made a decent amount of money in addition to her career. Besides arts and crafts, Jamie’s talent led her to become a makeup and tattoo artist.
Jamie was an animal lover and had several furry friends around the house. She treated her dogs like her children, spoiling them with gifts and lots of love.
Jamie also spent a lot of her free time at the beach. She loved the water, spending time with friends, and everything else about South Padre Island.
Jamie’s beautiful smile would brighten up any room. She was compassionate, loving, and a loyal daughter, sister, niece, and friend.
Jamie is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Manuel P. and Aurora S. Santoyo, cousin Jaime Onderdonk, and her favorite dog, Riley.
She is survived by her mom, Leticia Santoyo; dad, David Gomez; sister, Aurora Garcia ( Isaiah ); fiance, Jose Castillo; aunts, Sandra Onderdonk Flores (Lupe), Elena Santoyo, Herlinda Gamez, Maria Concepcion Santoyo, Irma Villarreal (Abel), and her loveable dogs, Cookie/Stella, Luna, Daisy, and Izzy.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 7th, and Wednesday, February 8th, 10 am-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, both days at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 9th, at 10 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Burial of Ashes will be Friday, 2pm, at Restlawn Memorial Park in Mercedes.
The family would like to thank Mercedes High School Orchestra Team for volunteering to play at Jamie’s service.
