Weslaco-
Juanita “Jane” Reyes was born June 20, 1937 in Weslaco to Vicente and Angelita (Perez) Reyes. She passed away on June 22, 2024, just two days past her 87th birthday.
She graduated from Weslaco High School in 1957 and continued her education at Baylor School of Nursing on a scholarship. Her achievement of receiving a Bachelor's degree marked a significant milestone, as she became the first college graduate in her family.
Jane's dedication to nursing was unwavering, particularly in leukemia treatments, during her long and distinguished career at Houston Methodist Hospital and MD Anderson. Her commitment to her profession led her to become a travel nurse, working with neonatal infants in Oakland and San Francisco. She returned to Texas in 1995, settling in Canyon Lake with her late husband, David Bramschrieber, where she would also retire from nursing in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vicente and Angelita Reyes, her sister, Mary Reyes Carillo, and her niece, Amber Lynn Christian.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Reyes Wilson (Jerry Wilson) of Weslaco; her son, Dan V. Smith (Angela K. Smith), with granddaughters Samantha Shapiro (Brandon Shapiro) and Cassidy Smith of Houston; her daughter, Dee Ann Schedler (Scott Schedler) of Falls Church, VA; and her son George V. Smith of Weslaco.
Jane's family will always remember how she enjoyed simple pleasures, such as shopping, listening to music, dancing, spending time with family, and a good margarita. Jane was also known to be fashionable; she never left home without makeup, lipstick, and a vibrant outfit accompanied by one of her many purses.
Jane's absence leaves a profound void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
