WESLACO –
Jesus Covacevich, 87, passed away on September 9th , 2015. He was born in Weslaco, Texas on December 21, 1927 to Andres and Paula Covacevich. He is preceded in his death by his parents, his wife Josefina, his sisters Juanita Soto and Genoveva Valdez, and his brother George Covacevich. He is survived by his sister Ernestina Salinas from Florida.
He and Josefina raised seven surviving children: Adan Jesus (Esthela) Covacevich of South Padre Island, Andres Covacevich of Weslaco, Angelita (Juan) Reyes of Weslaco, Anthony (Leticia) Covacevich of Weslaco, Aracelia Sandy (Guadalupe) Montez of San Juan, Annadelcia (Jose) Covacevich-Rios of Weslaco and Arnell “Randy” (Mary) (Celestina) Covacevich of Victoria. He is also survived by eigthteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren.
Jesus was raised on a farm on Westgate Dr. and Mile 9 North where he and his father sharecrop about twenty acres of land. They were known to raise some of the largest watermelons in the area. He joined the Army in June of 1947 and saw war duty in Korea. After his military service he was employed by Border Butane which later became Highway Pipeline for over twenty years as a butane gas tanker driver. He later worked for Texsun Corporation as the weightmaster until Texsun closed. He was an avid football spectator going to games as often as three times a week during the fall season. His love for football was only surpassed by his love for bird hunting.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11th ,2015 from 4pm to 9pm with a rosary service at 7:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Funeral service will be held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Saturday at 12th 9:30am with interment following the mass at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco.
Pallbearers will be Josue Reyes, Adam Covacevich, Alan Covacevich, Andres Raul Covacevich, Aaron Castillo and Anthony C. Covacevich.
