WESLACO - Jesus M. Fernandez, 59, passed away in Madrid, Spain. Jesse was born on July 1st, 1958 to Jose and Maria Fernandez. Jesse was the sixth of seven boys. He was raised in Mercedes where he graduated high school. Soon after high school, Jesse would marry his high school sweetheart, Angie, whom God had strategically placed in his life, and they would spend the rest of their lives together. Jesse had started college on a path to becoming an electrical engineer, but God had other plans. Jesse felt a strong calling into ministry, so he attended Bethel Bible Institute in Pharr, Texas and later graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie. He became an ordained minister for the Assemblies of God and was an associate pastor at Bethel Assemblies of God Church in Pharr. It was in that church, during a meeting, where he felt a strong and compelling calling from God to go into mission work. Angie was very supportive and they made the decision in 1991 to become career missionaries and they never looked back. Jesse and Angie spent the next twenty six years witnessing and caring for the people of Spain. Jesse thrived in his mission work and was very well loved and respected. Jesse had many hobbies, including fishing, bike riding and making people smile. By far his three loves, in order, were God, Angie and Spain. Jesse spent 24 hours a day in his true calling, ministry and saving lives through the grace and love of Christ. His passion and commitment were supported by his loving wife and soulmate, together they made a perfect team. Jesse knew that God had called his team to Spain and he fell in love with the people there. There was a saying that Jesse loved to repeat, de Madrid al Cielo, from Madrid to Heaven, was Jesse's story and purpose. Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Fernandez, his father and mother in law, Alejandro and Florence Mascorro, and brothers, Jaime and Eloy Fernandez.
