Weslaco- Jesus Hernandez Sr., 85, passed away on Friday, December 15th, 2017. He was born on April 26th, 1932 in Weslaco, Texas to Jose and Juana Hernandez. Jesus had one brother, Jose, and a sister, Margarita. He grew up in Weslaco and married Maria Hernandez in his early 20s. They would raise four children, Lydia, Alicia, Carmen, and Jesus Jr. Jesus will be remembered most for his strong work ethic. He worked very hard to make sure his family was taken care of and Maria could stay home and care for the children. Jesus spent most of his career as a farmer working for himself. He raised cattle and many types of fruits and vegetables. Most days Jesus spent hours on his tractor, bailing hay, and feeding animals. Though Jesus was self-employed for many years, he also worked for Texas State Hospital as a maintenance supervisor for over 20 years, where he retired. He really enjoyed going to out to eat with his family. Jesus is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Juan Hernandez, his loving wife of 40 years, Maria, his daughter, Alicia Gamez, brother, Jose Hernandez Jr., and sister Margarita Casias. He is survived by his daughters, Lydia Thompson (John) of Robstown, Carmen McArdle (Michael) of Ohio, son, Jesus Hernandez Jr. of Weslaco, son-in-law, Guadalupe Gamez Jr. of Weslaco, grandchildren, Rick Aguirre (Dolores) of Weslaco, Juliana Aguirre (Michael White) of Austin, Juan Gonzalez Jr. (Samantha) of Weslaco, Danielle Gamez of Progreso, Paul Gamez (Elizabeth) of Donna, Denise Gamez of Progreso, Michael McArdle Jr. and Chelsea McArdle, of Ohio, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 18th, from 3-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 at 10 am, at San Martin de Porres in Weslaco, with burial to follow at Weslaco City Cemetery.
