Weslaco: Jody Hernandez, 71, passed away on Tuesday, August 28th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 19, 1947, to Jose Hernandez and Cruz Casillas in Weslaco, Texas. Jody grew up in Progreso and graduated from Weslaco High School. Many will remember Jody from the Edinburg Racetrack where he made a name for himself and his car, "the Border Rat". Jody loved archery and deer hunting, but his favorite sport was golf. Most of the family vacations included a golf outing and you could find Jody at Tierra Santa on most afternoons, many times on his second round of the course. He was also a "master griller" and known for some of the best-barbecued food. Jody was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. He was a devoted Catholic and loyal friend to all who knew him Jody is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Cruz Hernandez and his son, Christopher Hernandez. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Alicia Hernandez, children, Amanda Hernandez Rodriguez (Robert) of Laredo, Cristian Hernandez of Weslaco, Johnny Arce (Sandra) of Weslaco, and Mark Arce (Kathy) of Weslaco, grandchildren, Joaquin, Josue, and Penelope Arce, brother, Juan Hernandez of Zachary, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29th, from 3pm-9pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 30th, 10 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco.
