John "Johnny" Jerry Mize

John "Johnny" Jerry Mize, 64, of Weslaco, Texas passed away peacefully at his residence, October 20, 2018, after fighting a two year battle with cancer. Johnny was born August 6, 1954, in Bay City, Texas to William Jerry and Mary Christine (Hardcastle) Mize. The family moved to Mercedes, where he was raised. Johnny graduated from Mercedes High School in 1972. On March 11, 1975, he married the love of his life Elizabeth Ann Fulcher, and they spent the rest of the next 43 years together, raising four children in Weslaco. Johnny was a jack of all trades and worked in many different industries. He was a mechanic and machine operator. He also spent many years as a Driller and Tool Pusher for several companies in the oil industries. Johnny was a bit of an entrepreneur and had his own company, J&J Valve services for several years. Most people will remember him from his career with Hidalgo & Cameron Counties Irrigation District #9, as a Superintendent, where he worked 24 years. Johnny had many hobbies which included fishing, hunting, golf, and racing. In his spare time, he enjoyed building Bar B Que pits, race cars and socializing with friends. Many will remember Johnny for his volunteer work with the Weslaco Little League and Youth football. He worked tirelessly, along with others, to build Weslaco's Little League Park. Johnny also enjoyed volunteering and was an active member of the Weslaco Elk's Lodge. He loved spending time with his children and grandkids. Johnny was greatly loved and will truly be missed by many. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, William Jerry and Mary Christine Mize. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Mize, children, Barbara Riviera (Larry Couch) of Weslaco, Saundra Mize Farley of Cedar Park, Texas, Jerry Mize (Jamie) of Edinburg, and Debra Mize (Matt Williams) of Weslaco; 11 grandchildren: Amanda Seagren, Justin Mize, Chase Riviera, Rebecca Lee, Cameron Riviera, Jacob Pena, Abby Mize, Jenna Pena, Barret Mize, Emry Mize, Levi Williams, two great-grandchildren, Joslin Seagren and Landon Dodson, brother Billy Mize (Terrie) of Weslaco, sisters Diane Frazier (Jim) of Katy, Texas, and Elizabeth Mize of La Grange, Texas. Johnny will always be remembered by his kind-hearted spirit, always willing to help others during a time of need. He was a great husband, brother, father, grandfather and a true friend. Visitation will be held at McCaleb Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 24th, at 4:30 pm, followed by A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24 at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas.
