DONNA - Jose Luis Reyna, a beloved figure in the Rio Valley community, passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2023. He was 66 years old.
Born on January 3, 1957, in San Juan, Texas, Jose and his ten siblings were introduced to work at an early age. The Reyna family worked as migrants traveling up North for half the year. As a result, Jose developed a stellar work ethic. His unwavering determination served him well when he embarked on a career with McDonald's at eighteen, starting as an entry-level employee. He rapidly ascended the ranks to become a District Manager through his steadfast determination and leadership abilities. Jose's exceptional contributions played a pivotal role in the success of the chain's numerous restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley. After forty-two years of service, Jose retired from McDonald's in 2019. Throughout his career, he tirelessly opened new restaurants and nurtured a dedicated team of employees who considered him their boss, mentor, and friend.
Kind-hearted and charismatic, Jose possessed a remarkable personality that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. With his quick wit and an innate ability to make people laugh, he brought joy to those around him. Jose was a natural-born leader who effortlessly garnered respect and admiration from colleagues and loved ones.
Outside of work, Jose was a huge sports fan. As a teenager, Jose excelled in baseball while attending Donna High School. Jose enjoyed all sports, soccer, basketball, football, you name it, but he was obsessed with golf. Jose would be found at one of the many golf courses around the valley when he had time off, and the weather cooperated. His favorite was Tierra Santa. His pride and happiness were immeasurable when he could share this passion with his son and grandson.
Jose's proudest accomplishments revolved around his beloved family. He found boundless joy in witnessing the achievements of his children and grandchildren. They held a special place in his heart, and his love for her knew no bounds.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Reyna Sr. and Maria Leonore Carrillo, his brothers, Filimon, Carlos Jr., and Raymond Reyna, and his niece, Nelda Reyna.
He is survived by his daughter, Frances Nicole Valderas (Abel); son, Jose Luis Reyna Jr.; lifelong close friend, Nora Alvarez; grandchildren, Lourdes Leonor Valderas, Aidan Diego Valderas; sisters, Graciela Reyna, Paula Martinez, Marina Rodriguez (Inez+), Virginia Sweet (Kevin), and Aurora Reyna, his brothers, Ricardo Reyna and Albert Reyna, and numerous nieces and nephews.
