Jose Salinas

August 27, 1928 — May 1, 2015

Jose Salinas, 86, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday May 1 at his home in Weslaco
in the company of his family and in the arms of his children. Born in Cardenas San Luis Potosi in Mexico on August 27, 1928, he has been a Weslaco resident since the late 1940’s when he
arrived with his mother Epimenia who preceded him in death in 1948 and his sister Concepcion Salinas Camacho and her husband Leon Camacho both of whom also preceded him in death. His first grandson Jose (JoJo) Wubense Valdez also preceded him in death in 1980 at the young age of
four.

A skilled craftsman, he was employed by local car dealerships all throughout his working career as an auto body repairman where he mentored and befriended many a coworker with whom he built and enjoyed friendships that lasted through the years. A 50’s era Trio music lover, he shared that love of music with his family, enjoyed playing his guitar and was beloved for his ever present smile and good nature. His love of family will long endure. And we will long remember his love for animals

Well known for his ability to fix anything, his family always marveled at his skills and his DIY nature. A sports enthusiast he also loved to recall 60’s era baseball teams and players as well as old school football and basketball teams.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Maria Salinas, eldest daughter Irma Salinas, son Carlos
Salinas (wife Vicki), daughter Alma Delia Salinas Valdez (husband Wubense), son Jose Alberto Salinas (wife Elida) and youngest daughter Graciela Salinas Roberts (husband Rick).
