Jose Salinas, 86, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday May 1 at his home in Weslaco
in the company of his family and in the arms of his children. Born in Cardenas San Luis Potosi in Mexico on August 27, 1928, he has been a Weslaco resident since the late 1940’s when he
arrived with his mother Epimenia who preceded him in death in 1948 and his sister Concepcion Salinas Camacho and her husband Leon Camacho both of whom also preceded him in death. His first grandson Jose (JoJo) Wubense Valdez also preceded him in death in 1980 at the young age of
four.
A skilled craftsman, he was employed by local car dealerships all throughout his working career as an auto body repairman where he mentored and befriended many a coworker with whom he built and enjoyed friendships that lasted through the years. A 50’s era Trio music lover, he shared that love of music with his family, enjoyed playing his guitar and was beloved for his ever present smile and good nature. His love of family will long endure. And we will long remember his love for animals
Well known for his ability to fix anything, his family always marveled at his skills and his DIY nature. A sports enthusiast he also loved to recall 60’s era baseball teams and players as well as old school football and basketball teams.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Maria Salinas, eldest daughter Irma Salinas, son Carlos
Salinas (wife Vicki), daughter Alma Delia Salinas Valdez (husband Wubense), son Jose Alberto Salinas (wife Elida) and youngest daughter Graciela Salinas Roberts (husband Rick). Also surviving him are grandchildren Ana Alicia Valdez Guajardo, Vanessa Valdez Krause, Alberto Manuel Salinas, Aimee and JC Salinas as well as Elliott, Brian and Jared Roberts and great grandchildren Benjamin and Allison Guajardo, Rose Maria Krause, Matthew Salinas and Ariana Salinas.
Visitation is set for Sunday May 3 2015 from 4 to 9PM with Rosary at 7PM at McCaleb Funeral
Home in Weslaco. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at 2PM at St Joan Of Arc Catholic
Church followed by graveside services at Highland Memorial Park also in Weslaco.
Pall bearers are his daughters Irma, Alma Delia, Graciela, sons Carlos and Jose Alberto and
nephew Pablo Camacho.
