Jose Luis Silva

Weslaco- Jose Luis Silva, 84, passed away on Thursday, June 13th, 2019 at his home. He was born on February 11, 1935, to Aurelio Silva Garcia and Guadalupe Gonzales Alaniz in San Xavier, Santiago, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. When Jose was a teenager, he met the love of his life, Celina F. Marroquin. They were married on December 27th, 1957 and had four children, Jose Luis Jr., Jerry, Ivan, and Isabel. Jose worked very hard to earn enough money to bring his family to the United States. In 1968, he was finally able to accomplish his goal and he and his young family traveled to Chicago where Jose was working in construction. He realized that the big city was not a place he and Celina wanted to raise their children and within one year, they returned to Weslaco where the would spend the rest of their lives. Jose continued to travel the world, seeking employment that would offer his wife and children the best life possible. He worked in Chicago, California, Florida, Houston, Galveston, and even Cuba, to name a few. Jose eventually settled down a bit and spent fifteen years working as a welder for Marathon Company at South Padre Island where he retired. He especially enjoyed the perks of fishing and enjoying South Padre Island with his family after a long week of work. Jose enjoyed boxing and was competitive for many years. He loved to work in his yard and kept it perfectly manicured. He was a great leader, husband, and father and exemplified selflessness and sacrifice. He was a great provider and lived life to the fullest. His free spirit landed him jobs that most people would only dream about. Jose was never afraid to take risks, especially when it meant a better life for his wife and children. He had an outgoing personality and was not afraid to ask questions. He was able to meet a lot of successful people along his life journey because of his charisma and extroverted nature. Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Aurelio Silva Garcia and Guadalupe Gonzales Alaniz, siblings, Angel, Concepcion, Pedro, Ninfa, Gilberto, Ana Maria, Guadalupe Estela, and Alvaro Silva Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Celina F. Silva, sons, Jose Luis Silva Jr. (Gracie), Jerry Silva (Laura Salazar),and Ivan Silva, daughter, Isabel Silva, all of Weslaco, grandchildren, Iliana Silva, Eric Silva, Ivan Silva Jr., Ianaresy Silva, Iram Silva Salazar, Laura Silva Salazar, and Ivonne Silva Salazar, and sister, Teresa Silva-Gonzales. Services will be held in Monterrey.
