TEXAS CITY - Surrounded by his loving family, Gonzalo Alvarado, Jr. (Joseph), 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Texas City, Texas. He was born July 28, 1932 in Donna, Texas. He attended Donna schools and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War in the Signal Corp at Pirmasens, Germany. He was a retired machinist and served his local community as an auxiliary police officer with the Blue Island Police Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo & Ciriaca Alvarado, his brothers, Arturo, Roberto, Teodolo, Jaime, Armando, & Ramiro Alvarado. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Sylvia Alvarado & Lydia Rayhill (Rich), grandsons, Jason Graves, Ryan, Josh & Troy Rayhill, sisters, Vera Filoteo (Bone), Alicia Rojas (Tito), Nena Hiles, Donna Ortiz (David), Toni Alvarado Epperson (Samuel), Barbara Alvarado (Adrian), Cora Escamilla (Carlos) & Mandy Alvarado, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys & Chicago Cubs fan. The family requests that you wear your favorite Cowboys or Cubs apparel. Pallbearers are Javier Escamilla, Josh Rayhill, Ryan Rayhill, Robert Alvarado Jr., Henry Lopez, Gonzalo Alvarado, and Carlos Escamilla. Honorary pallbearers Alfredito Alvarado, Rich Rayhill, Esteban Criado and Alejandro Alvarado. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 14th, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Chapel Service is scheduled for Monday, October 15th, 2018 at McCaleb Funeral Home, 10:00 am with interment to follow at Donna City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
