Juan Simon De Leon

WESLACO - Juan Simon De Leon, 64, passed away on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He was born on April 17th, 1953 in San Antonio to Juan Simon Sr. and Bisilisa Landeros. He had two sisters. The family moved to Weslaco, where Juan spent most of his life until his first marriage to Juanita Maria Palomin. They would move to Baytown where they raised their five children. Juan supported his family working as a truck driver. He worked for Cock Industries over twenty years. After raising their children, he and Juanita would divorce and Juan moved back to Weslaco. He met his wife, Maria Fuentes at a dance at the Triple City Dance Hall in Alamo. They were a perfect match and would spend 25 years together until his untimely death. They had a lot in common and Maria shared his passion for fishing. They would go fishing every weekend and Maria was always by his side, even when he was intent on catching alligator gar. He was never able to get one, but he loved to try. They spent a lot of time in Port Mansfield, but Juan was content to fish at the canal. Anywhere he had an opportunity to catch some fish, he was ready to go. Juan had a very adventurous spirit, which may be why he became a truck driver. He was able to travel and he was also was able to take Maria with him on his truck driving routes. She was a perfect companion. They were able to visit many places including Louisiana, Chicago, New York, Washington, and Colorado. He was full of surprises. Many times he would take a drive just for fun to all ends of the valley. Juan loved to watch movies. Every Friday he would take his trip to the Flea Market to get the latest movie. He loved to play the lottery, especially scratch offs. He also loved to dance and drink his wine, which as he fell ill, became O'doul's. Juan loved to watch sports, boxing and baseball, but especially football. He was the biggest Dallas Cowboy fan and never missed a game. Juan will long be remembered as a fisherman and a really funny guy. He could make people laugh in an instant. His love of fishing and laughter will long be missed but always be remembered. Juan is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Simon Sr. and Bisilisa Landeros, his first wife and mother of his children, Juanita Maria Palomin, and his sister, Ninfa Villarreal. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty five years, Maria Fuentes De Leon, his children, Juan Simon De Leon III (Maria), Dominique De Leon (Rosie), Gabriel De Leon (Mariah), and Jessica De Leon, all of Baytown, Texas, and Benjamin De Leon of Idaho, step-children, Veronica Fuentes of New Braunfels, Sandra Farias of Weslaco, David Fuentes (Maria) of Mercedes, Marco Antonio Fuentes (Erica) of Mercedes, and Margarita Fuentes of Weslaco, his sister, Chela Latigo of Weslaco, twenty nine grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26th, from 10am-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 27th, 2pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Burial will follow at Weslaco City Cemetery.
