Juan Obidio Herrera

May 17, 1961 — December 5, 2016

Weslaco-Juan Obidio Herrera, 55, passed away on Monday, December 5th, 2016. He was born on May 17, 1961 to the late Obidio Herrera and Margarita H. Herrera from Weslaco, Texas. Juan married his high school sweetheart Diana Silva Herrera on December 19, 1980 and would become the proud parents of twogorgeous children. Ariana Zamora and Jorge A. Herrera. Ariana is the wife of Rogelio Zamora and they are the parents of Juan's only three grandchildren. Danny (10), Joseph (8) and Priscilla (7). Having struggled with renal failure since October 2010, Juan fought hard to be there for his grandchildren. He would often buy them ice-cream, candy and toys. First thing he asked Ariana in these last 3 months when he was most ill was, "How are my babies." Danny, Joseph and Pila, know that your grandpa loved you so much. Juan is survived by his in laws, Olegario and Maria Silva, Alicia Santiago (Don), Maricela Martinez (Alfredo), Christina Silva (Pedro Saurez), Robert Silva, Ruben Silva (Belia). Juan was also the oldest of seven children. Pablo Herrera (Angie), the late Martin Herrera (Linda), Petra Garza (Armando), Patricia Dominguez (Juan), Rolando Herrera and Maggie Herrera all of Weslaco, Texas. He took this responsibility seriously and would constantly remind us younger ones that he helped mom and dad take care of us. With the passing of his father in 1986 Juan felt the responsibility to take charge of his youngest sister as his own. He was also known as Tio Fun to all of his numerous nieces and nephews. He loved napping with the children when they were infants and seemed as if it was his gift. Juan worked hard all his life. At a very young age he contributed to the family by working in the fields later after graduating from Weslaco High School in 1980 he began his employment at HEB. Later he became the Produce Manager where he stayed for 15 years. He moved his expertise to Super Kmart also as a Produce Manager. Soon after he would dabble with construction and become self employed. His last employer was Waukesha Pearce where Juan was best known for his charm in sales as the Lead Parts Specialist. Juan's favorite all time hobby was fishing. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and his family. A hobby he got from his daddy. Many may be surprised that Juan did not enjoy country music. He preferred Rock & Roll and Hard Rock. Having spent many years trying to overcome his illness, he was well known for being that unique person. If there was even the slightest chance that he would overcome minimal odds he would astonish his doctors and defeat the odds. He created long lasting relationships with his nurses and doctors that they would tolerate his insults if they didn't do something to his liking. One of Juan's sayings was, "Because a Man without scars has not felt the hardship of life or the feeling of pain." Author unknown. His character was best shown as he carried his heavy cross and battled with his illness. He had every right to cry, be mad or even fall into depression, but instead he loved us and lived for every moment because his illness would not rob him of who he was. He will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
