Weslaco-Juan Pedro Mata, 50, Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend, passed away Friday evening June 6, 2014, at Knapp Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born Dec. 5, 1963 in Weslaco, TX. to Adolfo G. and Monica P. Mata. He was a 1982 graduate of Weslaco High School where he excelled in high school baseball. He was best known as "Mr. Weslaco" for his continued support of Weslaco sports. He was a die hard Panther fan and the voice of the press box during Weslaco Panther baseball games since 2000. He loved playing the introductory music for the baseball players as well as entertaining the crowd. His unselfish approach to life was symbolic in his service to his family. He dedicated his life to being that one person you could count on for any favor from a simple drive to a doctor to picking up a friends son at the other end of the Valley. His family considered him as an over qualified taxi driver without pay. His trademark statement "

He was preceded in death by his father Adolfo G. Mata and his sister in law Leticia Barrera Mata.
He will be truly missed by his mom Monica P. Mata, Sisters Mary D. (Orlando) Cantu, Ana Mata, Alicia Mata, Emilia (Merardo) De Leon Jr., Luisa (Jeff) Riemersma, brothers Arnold (Anne) Mata and Lino Mata. His is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, who saw him as a second father, grand nephews and grand nieces.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Mata, Samuel Mata, Daniel Mata, Steven Mata, Isaac De Leon, Isaiah De Leon, Adolfo Mata & Joshua Riemersma.
