Juana Rosales

DONNA - Juana Rosales, 89, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at her residence in Donna. Juana was born in Hidalgo Tamaulipas on February 28, 1933, to Macario Hernández Reyna and María de Jesús Porras Resendez. 

Juana grew up in Hidalgo, Tamaulipas Mexico. She moved to Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. 

Juana married José Rosales Llanas, and they had eleven children. The family moved to Dallas for José’s job. Juana took care of the grandchildren but also sold baked goods in the community to help José with the family income. 

In 1994, Juana and José moved to Progreso, Texas, where they enjoyed the rest of their lives. Juana and José were always together, traveling, caring for their children, spending time in the garden, and watering plants. When José passed away on August 8th, 2012, Juana moved to Donna. 

Juana was a loving mother who cared for and consented to her children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, and sons-in-law. Juana showed them love, by making their favorite foods. Some of their favorites were flour tortillas, gorditas, tamales, etc. 

Juana liked plants very much and took care of her garden. She was also a talented seamstress, embroidering and knitting in her free time. 

Juana had a heart of gold and will be remembered with love and affection for her whole family.

Juana is preceded in death by her parents, Macario Hernández Reyna and María de Jesús Porras Resendez, her husband and best friend, José Rosales, and her children, Guadalupe Rosales, Maria Estela Rosales, Silvia Rosales, José Armando Rosales.

Juana is survived by her children, Maria Davila (Pablo), Maria Rosales, Andres Rosales (Rosa), Noelia Rosales, Maria Isabel Reyes (Felipe), Francisco Javier Rosales, and Jose Rosales, twenty-seven grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22nd, 10 am-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be Thursday, February 23, at 10 am, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Progreso, Texas, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.
