Juanita Treviño, 64, passed away on Sunday, March 15th, 2020, after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. Juanita was born on August 19th, 1955, in Cd. Victoria, Tamps. She spent most of her youth in Mexico, before emigrating in 1979 and resided mostly in Weslaco for the remainder of her life. To say she was the matriarch of the Treviño family is an understatement, she was the glue that held them together.
Juanita loved to travel, especially back to her childhood home in Mexico, which she forever lovingly referred to as “el rancho.” There wasn’t a trip or adventure she ever said no to, and her lively and happy nature made her a magnet for great friends wherever she went. Aside from being an incredibly talented seamstress, she also had a love for gardening, knitting, and dance, but if you ask her family, her cooking was her best skill.
Juanita was an amazing role model for her children, strong and strong-willed, independent, and firm when she needed to be. She was also loving, caring, and gentle, especially with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The only thing she loved more than being a mom was being a grandma.
Juanita spent the last twelve years of her career working at Wal-Mart, where she worked in the stocking department and met many great co-workers that she grew to love dearly.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her seven children, Marco (Isela), Alma, Beatriz, David (Alma), Diana (Osbaldo Saucedo), Angelica (Juan A. Cerda), and Araceli Treviño, twenty-three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Aside from her immediate family, the entire extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that are mourning the loss of this incredible woman is a testament to how much she was (and is) loved. Despite the absence of our “glue,” the love she left among us persists, and will continue to keep this family sticking together.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 19th, and Friday, March 20th, from 10 am-9 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 21st, 10 am, at McCaleb Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Misael Zuniga.
Burial will follow at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
