Weslaco- Julian “120” Javier “Harvey” Flores passed away on February 20, 2025, at 58. He was born on December 27, 1966, to Julian Flores Jr. and Avelina Rincon Flores.
Julian had an undeniable spunk for life from a young age—always adventurous, playful, and energetic. After junior high, he channeled that enthusiasm into becoming a dedicated manager for the Weslaco Panthers football team. As a Little League player, he never imagined he’d one-day lead teams to championships as a coach. Known for his commitment and generosity, "120" often went the extra mile—literally—picking up players for practice and even buying them gloves to ensure no one missed out on the chance to play.
Coming from a migrant family, Julian’s first job was learning to drive a tractor under his father’s guidance—a tough lesson that brought a few tears. Thankfully, his brother Jaime was there to help ease the struggle and offer support. By age fifteen, Julian landed a job at Charles Store, a humble beginning at a place that would later become the iconic Fajita Palace.
Julian proudly graduated from Weslaco High School with the Class of 1985. He was an active student council member and participated in the school’s VIGIL’S. After graduation, he joined the family business at Flores Insurance Agency before continuing his education at Pan American University. There, his passion for baseball thrived as he became the Pan American Broncs Baseball Team manager, further cementing his love for the game.
Julian worked as a scale master for the Progreso Co-Op Gin. Later, “120” joined the U.S. Postal Service as a dedicated rural route carrier. He then poured his heart and time into his second family business, The Panthers Den.
A true outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, Julian loved hunting, bowling, and especially playing golf with his dad and close friends. After his father's passing, the Lions Club honored his legacy by establishing the Julian Flores Jr. Golf Tournament, which is dedicated to supporting educational causes—something close to the family’s heart.
Julian was an avid sports fan, passionately following teams like the Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, UTRGV Broncs, and any team representing Weslaco.
His commitment to the community was unmatched. Since 1986, Julian has been a proud member of the Weslaco Mid Valley Lions, where he served in numerous roles, including Secretary, Tail Twister, and President, and was honored as Lion of the Year. In 2014, he also joined the Weslaco Elks Lodge 2057. Dedicated to civic engagement, Julian was elected precinct chairman for Hidalgo County Precincts #58 and #112.
His love for sports extended into coaching, where he mentored young athletes in the Weslaco Little League and the Weslaco Youth Football League, shaping future generations on and off the field.
Perhaps most notably, Julian was a beloved figure in Weslaco’s sports scene, known for his unwavering loyalty to the Weslaco Panthers. For over three decades, he served as a "spotter," working alongside his lifelong best friend, Marcos Hernandez “La Voz”, to bring the excitement of Weslaco sports to life for the community.
Julian “120” is preceded in death by his father, Julian Flores Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Avelina Rincon Flores; his brother, Jaime Flores; his sister, Cynthia F (Omero) Villa; and nieces Jenny (William) Ortiz and Julieza Flores.
Julian “120” will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
