WESLACO - Kathleen Stevenson, 96, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2023. She was born on December 7, 1926 to Albert and Eva Erhart in Hutchinson Kansas, one of six children. She was educated in Kansas and graduated from Kansas University in 1948. While in college, she met and married Robert (Bob) Stevenson in 1947.
Bob and Kathleen lived first in Kansas where they both worked as teachers and where their children were born. In 1954 they moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where they both worked for Conoco. Kathleen first worked in the Human Resources department, but with the arrival of computers she transferred over to work as a keypunch operator in the computing department.
In 1968, Bob accepted a transfer with Conoco to Lafayette, Louisiana. Kathleen decided to return to school and received her Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University Of Southwest Louisiana in 1971. After receiving her degree she worked as the Assistant Registrar of the University.
Although they had been Winter Texans for several years, Bob and Kathleen moved to Southern Comfort Park in Weslaco, TX full time in 2001. They were very active in the park and Kathleen was the founder and organizer of the annual Mardi Gras celebration for many years. Bob passed away in 2010 and Kathleen remained at Southern Comfort and was active in many park activities right up until her death, especially Bridge and Fast Track. Kathleen was an excellent cook, and enjoyed making her specialties to share with other residents in the park. She enjoyed sewing and especially quilting. She always loved computers and could be found online every day. She stayed informed of current events and, as a staunch liberal, would have a vigorous discussion on politics with any one who cared to spar with her. She volunteered at Knapp Hospital until her death. She loved people and loved giving to her community and she will be greatly missed.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Eva Erhart, by her five siblings, Thayne Erhart, Donna Fox, Betty Gordon, Paul Erhart, and James Erhart, by her husband of 63 years Robert Stevenson, and by her son Lewis Stevenson. She is survived by her daughter Peggy James and son in law Kazimierz (Phillip) Marszal.
