Lelan "Jake" Boultinghouse

November 25, 1942 — January 28, 2016

WESLACO - Jake Boultinghouse, 73, passed away on January 28th peacefully in the comfort of his home from complications of heart failure.

Jake was born to Evelyn and Lelan Boultinghouse in November of 1942. He grew up in Odem, Texas and spent an abundance of his childhood fishing on Mathis Lake at his grandparent’s lake house.

After graduating from Odem High School, he joined the Army and served our country as a Message Translator while stationed in France.

Soon after returning to the States, he met Delores Ann Willoughby at a dance in Alice, Texas. They would soon be married and have a beautiful family. Tassy was born in 1968, followed by Tonja in 1970. Jake began a career at CP&L where he started as a lineman. Over thirty years ago, Weslaco was lucky to have CP&L transfer him to our town where he came to enjoy the company of good friends. He and Delores declined future transfers so they could build a stable, loving home for their girls. Jake retired from CP&L as a Supervisor in his mid-fifties.

Although Jake had many hobbies, he mostly enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as telling tall tales with his buddies. He loved leatherwork and was also well known for the knives he made. He especially enjoyed donating his work to local charity fundraisers. He was an avid reader of history or western novels.

He cherished his grandchildren. Tassy married Mitch Beasley and blessed Jake with four high-spirited grandsons: Boomer, Jake, Joe and Lee. Tonja married Robby Gatton and graced him with two beautiful granddaughters: Casey and Haley.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jake’s life on Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas, officiated by family friend, Roy Todd.
